Mooska farm

Mooska Farm is located in Võru County, in the heart of the beautiful nature of Haanja, at the foot of Vällamäe Hill. Here, we live in harmony with nature and the heritage of our ancestors. We wish to share our lifestyle and introduce our guests to local heritage culture, proudly represented by traditional local food and the smoke sauna.
We present our farm and smoke saunas, the smoke sauna tradition, and offer heritage food and meat smoked in the sauna for tasting. We move and breathe with nature.
Our sauna by the pond is heated for 5–8 hours, depending on the weather and the number of guests, to ensure a perfect steam experience. We always use alder firewood, occasionally adding some birch. The hot smoke purifies the air of microbes, and the heat of the smoke sauna is healing. Once heating is finished, the sauna is aired out, water is thrown on the stones to drive out the harshness, and the smoke hole is closed after the first rounds of steam. We use soft washing water from the pond, which also provides a refreshing dip for guests – in winter, a safe hole is made in the ice. There is no electricity in the sauna.
The stones in the stove have been brought from the seashore, as we believe in the slow release of sea salts from the stones during heating and steaming.
The rich scent of burning wood is accompanied by the aroma of meat smoked in the sauna, birch whisks, and the aftertaste of sauna honey. When water is thrown on the stove, a pleasant warmth envelops the sauna and its guests, turning into a soft, slightly humid steam. There’s plenty of hot water; cold water must be fetched by the bathers themselves from the pond as needed.
The sauna bench comfortably fits up to 8 people at a time.
The heating session price includes two whisks, handmade soaps, sauna honey, and herbal tea. For an additional fee, you can get a juniper whisk, sauna towel, sauna hat, sauna robe, sitting towel, and homemade beer. A cherished tradition at our farm is that the host and hostess enjoy the sauna together with the guests.
