In the basement of the Cathedral, in the Crypt of St Leonard, on 2 November 1946, Fr Karol Wojtyla celebrated his first Mass, among other things for his deceased parents and brother. On the feast of St Wenceslas, patron saint of the Cathedral, on 28 September 1958, Fr Karol Wojtyla was consecrated bishop. He chose as the motto on his coat of arms the Latin words Totus Tuus [All Yours]. While being the Successor of St. Peter in Rome, John Paul II came to the Cathedral in the years: 1979, 1983, 1987, 1991, 1997, 1999 and in 2002.
During his first pilgrimage to his homeland, on the 900th anniversary of the martyrdom of St Stanislaus, he prayed at his grave, and eight years later, he celebrated the Holy Sacrifice of the Cross of Queen Jadwiga, which is famous for its graces, and in August 2002, he prayed the Breviary before the confession of St Stanislaus.
