The Sanctuary of the Relics of the Holy Cross – a sanctuary located on Święty Krzyż (Łysa Góra) in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, within the Diocese of Sandomierz, is the oldest sanctuary in Poland. The exact founding date of the Benedictine abbey on Łysa Góra is unknown. Benedictine tradition attributes its foundation to Bolesław the Brave in 1006. What is certain is that the monastery was established in the first half of the 12th century by Bolesław III Wrymouth, initially dedicated to the Holy Trinity, and from the 15th century to the Holy Cross. The Oleśnicki Chapel houses a significant relic of the Holy Cross. Since 1936, it has been home to the monastery and novitiate of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate.
