The Sanctuary of the Mother of Justice and Social Love in Piekary Śląskie is the largest pilgrimage site in Silesia associated with Marian devotion. It consists of: Basilica of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Bartholomew and Piekarska Calvary. Karol Wojtyla made annual pilgrimages to this place between 1965 and 1978, where he preached the Word of God to people weary from hard work. On 20 June 1983, the image of Mary of Piekary was brought to the Muchowiec airport in Katowice, where John Paul II bestowed the title of Mother of Justice and Social Love on the Lady of Piekary.
