When visiting Zakopane, you absolutely must take the funicular railway to Gubałówka (1,123 m above sea level), built in 1938. Today, modern cable cars with glass roofs allow you to admire the stunning tiered vegetation of the Tatra Mountains, along with the peaks of Poland’s highest mountains. At the summit, a host of attractions awaits—most notably the breathtaking panoramic views of the Tatras, Gorce, Beskid Wysoki, and Pieniny Mountains, as well as the town of Zakopane nestled at the foot of the mountains. There’s also a playground for kids, a gravity-powered toboggan run, and the highest-altitude beach for those craving warm sunshine.
