New Square in Cracow

Medals available at the PHU Kazimierz building!

Plac Nowy (New Square) is one of Poland’s most original market squares, and perhaps even one of Europe’s. It boasts a unique atmosphere with its historic buildings and a central landmark known as the “Okrąglak” (Roundhouse). Particularly in the last two decades, it has become a highly recognizable part of Kraków, visited by tourists from all over the world.

At Plac Nowy, vendors sell agricultural produce, food items, and industrial goods, while themed markets are also organized, such as flea markets, “authentic product” markets, local design markets, clothing bazaars, and pigeon and ornamental bird markets. Artistic events are also held on the market grounds.

The local design markets have become a fixture in our marketplace landscape. We invite you to visit them every Saturday. Another recent discovery for Plac Nowy is the flea market—a paradise for collectors who come from all over Poland. These markets take place on weekdays, especially on Saturdays when the number of vendors doubles.

A permanent feature is, of course, the Sunday clothing bazaar, which has been part of the market’s scenery for decades. Plac Nowy is also an endless source of tasty and affordable food. The numerous bars and grills here offer cheap and delicious meals: the now-traditional Polish-style pizza (zapiekanki), Polish cuisine dishes, hamburgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, kebabs, and an abundance of fruits and vegetables.

From Monday to Saturday, a traditional flea market takes place here, while on Sundays, the square transforms into a massive clothing bazaar. Friday mornings belong to pigeon enthusiasts, who are sure to find something of interest here.
