Mostar Airport

Mostar Airport was opened for civil air traffic in 1965, exclusively for domestic flights.

In 1984, Mostar Airport was declared an alternative airport for Sarajevo International Airport during the Olympic Games, thereby acquiring the status of an international airport.

Later, this new status positively influenced the growing interest of domestic and international carriers in Mostar Airport, taking into account the fact that the village of Medjugorje is a world-famous pilgrimage site, located only 20 km west of Mostar, and air travel is certainly the fastest and most efficient way to reach it.

A record number of 86,000 passengers in the pre-war period was recorded in 1990. It was justifiable to expect that 1991 would bring an increased number of 100,000 passengers, but unfortunately, armed conflicts began, and with that, civil air traffic was suspended with the last flight taking place in November 1991.

Mostar Airport was reopened for air traffic on July 7, 1998. The burnt and devastated terminal building with complete infrastructure was fully renovated with funding from the European Community.

There is significant interest from charter operators in Mostar Airport, with its geographical location as an advantage, being near the Medjugorje shrine.

Mostar Airport is entering a new development phase, marked by European Community investments in modernizing its facilities and acquiring equipment for aircraft and passenger handling.
We can confidently say that Mostar Airport, reaching high standards in equipment and professional training of its staff, will enter the new millennium and play an important economic role in the entire region.

The significant increase in passenger traffic at Mostar Airport is precisely due to the fact that it is located only about 20 kilometers from Medjugorje, and air travel is certainly the fastest and most efficient way to get there.
Today, a growing interest from tour operators and airlines in organizing charter flights to Mostar Airport can be expected.
The good equipment and professional staff of Mostar Airport ensure that at all times, the traffic of aircraft, passengers, luggage, and cargo is safe, at the highest level, and according to ICAO standards.

The airport is capable and equipped to accommodate all aircraft up to and including category “C” (maximum take-off weight up to 200 tons).
