Henryk Tomaszewski Theatre Museum in Wrocław

Medals available at the ticket office and in the Royal Palace!

The Henryk Tomaszewski Theater Museum is the first institution of its kind in Poland dedicated to theater, located in the former southern wing of Wrocław’s Royal Palace. The museum’s main goal is to present and promote the achievements of Wrocław’s theater scene, considered one of the most important in Europe, with particular emphasis on commemorating its outstanding creator – Henryk Tomaszewski. The idea to create a place documenting Henryk Tomaszewski’s work and famous collecting passion emerged during his lifetime and gained the Master’s approval.

The museum tells the story of Wrocław’s entire theater life through permanent and temporary exhibitions, an extensive and original educational program combining theoretical and practical classes, meetings, shows and workshops that unconventionally reveal theater secrets. The museum is a source of information and research, promoting methods, ideas and techniques related to theater professions. But above all, it is a place where visitors are immersed in the magical world of theater from the moment they enter.

In addition to presenting the history of Wrocław’s theater scene, especially after 1945, one of the guiding principles of this institution is its personalized character – it tells history through the prism of specific people and their work. Therefore, the permanent exhibition includes a reconstruction of Master Henryk Tomaszewski’s apartment, Professor Janusz Degler’s office with his extensive collection of theater literature, and the photographic studio of Stefan Arczyński, the tireless documentarian of Wrocław’s theater scene. An important part of the permanent exhibition is also Dr. Mirosław Oczkoś’s Voice Laboratory – a place where museum guests learn about voice work techniques.
