Golub Castle in Golub-Dobrzyń

Medals can be purchased in the courtyard, on the right!
Visible from afar, Golub Castle is embedded in an extremely picturesque landscape – the result of the erosive activity of the Drwęca River flowing through Golub-Dobrzyń in meanders. The carefully maintained surroundings of the castle – a high green escarpment on which the building rises, the nearby well-kept Castellan’s Valley (with its historic park) and the town spread out at the foot of the hill with its historic buildings and fragments of medieval walls – emphasise the beauty of the residence towering over the area.
Anyone intending to visit Golub Castle, before crossing the castle gate and entering the courtyard, should first stand on the viewing platform located next to the castle (which is a remnant of the foundations of the corner tower of the middle castle), in order to catch a glimpse of the panorama of the town with its meandering ribbon of silvery shining river.
Having feasted our eyes on the magnificent view, let us then take a moment to look at the characteristic silhouette of the building – one of the most beautiful castles in northern Poland. It should be remembered that the castle has a history dating back several hundred years, and for hundreds of years it has been marked by successive – usually turbulent – eras, successive owners of the castle and the reconstructions they undertook. At present, the most striking feature of the castle is its well-preserved Gothic-Renaissance character, also visible inside its walls.
