A 14th-century seat of the city authorities. The most famous hall in this building is the Great Council Hall (Red Hall), adorned with 32 paintings by renowned Dutch masters. In the late 16th and early 17th centuries, the interiors were embellished by artists from Gdańsk’s golden age of art, including Izaak van den Block, Hans Vredeman de Vries, and Antonius van Obberghen. The town hall tower houses a carillon with 37 bells, whose chimes provide a musical backdrop to city events and serve as their unique commentator.
