Czorsztyn Castle, erected by King Casimir the Great on the site of the former stronghold of Wronin on a rocky hill /558 m above sea level/ on the left bank of the Dunajec River, fulfilled extremely important tasks for the Polish State: defence of the border, protection of an important trade route and also the function of an administrative centre. “Czorsztyn was visited by kings, the castle was besieged and conquered, burned and rebuilt, destroyed and restored, and today, as a witness to important historical events, it is a reminder of the turbulent history of the Republic of Poland.
