Czerna Castle

Medals available in the castle hall!

The castle in Czerna, called Lindner Castle – after the eminent builder who became famous for his ability to create elaborate Gothic vaults – was built in 1558. It was a wedding gift from his father Wolfgang Glaubitz to his son Christopher.

History has been kind to the building, and in almost unchanged form the castle has survived through the centuries to the present day. Perhaps it was Christopher’s life motto on the renaissance portal

“Alles mit Bedacht” (everything with care) that guarded against hasty reconstructions, or perhaps it was the stones incorporated into the thick brick walls that created and still create the friendly atmosphere.

The Renaissance castle in Czerna has been open to the public for several years now, who, passing under the Renaissance portal adorning the entrance, enter a different world, a different time, from the castle hallway.

The two-tract layout of the ground floor chambers has not been affected by major reconstruction over the centuries. In the subsequent chambers, arranged in an amphitheatre, we can admire a unique collection of medieval vaults, ranging from barrel vaults, rib vaults, net vaults (star vaults) to crystal vaults. The intricacy of the architectural details is emphasised by the vivid colours and finesse of the polychrome paintings with which they were covered. In the chambers with flat ceilings, the stuccowork is impressive, as if carved from alabaster, framing the illusionistic plafonds, whose delicate drawing and pearl-pastel colours are reminiscent of the morning sky.

The beautiful interior architecture is complemented by stylish furniture, tastefully selected fabrics, paintings, lamps, porcelain and various small details. Each object has its own history, but their uniqueness and beauty make them a harmonious whole. Collected over the years, they waited for their place in the castle chambers. When they have found it, it seems as if they have always occupied it. They now create the magical atmosphere of the family residence and their beauty paints a different atmosphere in the individual chambers.

If these interiors had been spared the storms of history, they would be full of similar objects collected over generations, witnesses to past eras and stylish evolutions. A visit to this space is a magical journey through time, styles and epochs for all sensitive aesthetes. It is also an opportunity to learn about the unique history and secrets of the place.

Visitors can enjoy attractions such as the garden and the historic park, the possibility of staying overnight in the historic interiors and delicious meals.
