The Cathedral of St. Mary Magdalene is one of the oldest churches in Wrocław. It was built between 1226-1232. This former Evangelical church now belongs to the Polish Catholic Church.

The Cathedral of Mary Magdalene in its current form as a Gothic, brick, three-nave basilica was constructed between 1355-1360 and served as the city’s main temple.

The “Penitents’ Bridge” is a footbridge connecting the towers of St. Mary Magdalene Church, located at a height of 45 meters. According to legend, one could see the souls of young women who, instead of taking care of children and home, preferred amusement and pleasures with men. As punishment, they had to walk this narrow footbridge between the towers.
