Castle on Mount Birów

Medals available for purchase in the fortified tower on Birów Mountain!
The reconstructed Royal Stronghold on Birów Mountain is a true delight for history enthusiasts and seekers of traces from the past. In the massif of the rocky outcrop where the wooden stronghold is situated, there are numerous caves once inhabited by our ancient ancestors. Archaeological research has confirmed human presence in this location as far back as 30,000 years ago. Artifacts found from various eras—horn and flint tools, weaving spindle whorls, arrowheads, horseshoes, and clay vessels—have allowed us to learn about the history of the site and the way of life of its former inhabitants. The last period of settlement in Birów dates back to the Early Middle Ages and Middle Ages, when a Slavic settlement was established here along with a burial mound at the foot of the mountain.
Today, in the reconstructed stronghold styled as a medieval settlement, visitors can see thematic exhibitions gathered in the settlement owner’s hut and the warriors’ tower, which also houses artifacts discovered during research.
For schools and organized groups, there is an opportunity to participate in specialized tours, living history lessons, or “A Walk Through the Ages”—a guided journey from ancient times to the present.
