Bucegi Mountains

The Bucegi Massif, with an area of around 300 km², is located on the eastern edge of the Southern Carpathians and stretches between the Prahova Valley in the east and the Bran Corridor and the Ialomița Valley in the west; it slopes steeply to the north towards the Bârsa Depression and to the south towards the Subcarpathians of the Carpathian Bend. It is located in the counties of Dâmbovița, Prahova and Brașov. Due to its structural and morphological complexity, the massif appears like a natural fortress with heights between 1600 and 2500 metres, surrounded by steep slopes.

Azuga is an important spa and tourist resort, located in the Prahova Valley at the confluence with the Azuga River, at the foot of the Bucegi and Baiului Mountains, near the Sorica and Cazacu mountain ranges.

Azuga is home to the first ski slope in Romania to be homologated by the F.I.S. (International Ski Federation) – the Sorica slope. Thanks to this special feature and extensive investment in the tourist infrastructure, Azuga has developed into one of the largest ski resorts in the country.

Ski slopes:

Sorica – 2100 m long, medium difficulty, 561 m difference in altitude, night lighting and snow cannons for 700 m.

Cazacu – 1920 m long, medium difficulty, difference in altitude 530 m.

Cazacu variant – 400 m long, medium difficulty, artificial snow system.

Cazacu Bretea – 715 m long, difference in altitude 163 m.

Sorica South – 770 m long, easy level of difficulty.

La Stână – 910 m long, easy level of difficulty.

Azuga has a gondola lift, which was inaugurated at the end of 2007 and provides access to all slopes from the upper point. There are also ski lifts, mini-ski lifts and children’s lifts.

Bran
The Bran – Zănoaga ski slope, opened in 2005, is located less than 4 kilometres from Bran Castle. It has an intermediate level of difficulty, ideal for beginners and advanced skiers. The slope is 1000 metres long, equipped with a ski lift, with a height difference of 170 metres. Snow cannons ensure optimum conditions even in winters with little snow. Night lighting enables skiing even in the dark. There are hire stations and a first aid post at the foot of the piste.
