Balchik Palace

The Palace in Balchik is a former summer residence of the Romanian Queen Marie, built between 1924 and 1927 by Italian architects Amerigo and Augustino.
A major contribution to the unique beauty of the Palace was made by the Swiss park architect and chief gardener Jules Jeannine, who also designed the gardens of the palaces of Russian Emperor Nicholas II in Tsarskoye Selo near St. Petersburg.

The architectural and park complex “The Palace” includes two main elements – the buildings and the park, which has been transformed into a scientific botanical garden managed by Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.
The complex consists of numerous villas and auxiliary buildings that blend Old Bulgarian, Gothic, Oriental, and Moorish elements.
This cultural diversity is also a reflection of the Bahá’í Faith, followed by Queen Marie of Romania.
