Zemplén Adventure Park

The Zemplén Adventure Park operates in Hungary’s northernmost town, Sátoraljaújhely, more precisely on Magas-hegy, the mountain towering above the city. Since 2001, the country’s longest chairlift has been operating here, which, with an intermediate station, carries passengers in pairs all the way to the top of Magas-hegy. After traveling the 1,332-meter-long route, a beautiful panorama opens up from the 503-meter-high mountain over Sátoraljaújhely and the Zemplén Mountains.

The expansion of the park began in 2009, with the first addition being a record-length alpine coaster track. The 2,275-meter-long track allows a maximum speed of 37 km/h. In 2014 and 2015, the park added two true sensations: the extreme zipline (Sólyom) and the enclosed glass-cabin cableway (Dongó). The slightly more than 1-kilometer distance between Magas-hegy and Szár-hegy can thus be crossed either in closed cabins or on a zipline stretched above the treetops at 152 meters high, reaching speeds of up to 80 km/h. The experiences can also be combined: take the chairlift from the base station to the top, zip over to Szár-hegy, return via cabin, and then descend by chairlift to your starting point. This kind of extreme adventure is unique in the entire country.

A major advantage of the Adventure Park is that it’s open year-round. In winter, ski slopes and an artificial ice rink welcome visitors; if there’s no snow, guests can practice on Hungary’s longest and widest plastic ski slope.

The Adventure Park has three levels, offering different adventures at the lower, middle, and upper stations.

Lower station
The chairlift and alpine coaster depart from here, and you’ll also find the roller and artificial ice rink. Since 2015, the Climbing Wall Center has been open, featuring the country’s tallest wall—18 meters indoors and 21 meters outdoors—with a 400 m² climbing surface. This center also houses a tourist hostel with 60 beds.

Middle station
This is also the chairlift’s intermediate stop and home to the adventure courses. Four courses of varying difficulty were built, including one specifically for children. The snow cannon-equipped ski slopes also start here, and you can try snow tubing as well. Winter sports enthusiasts may enjoy the ski history museum located in the old ski lodge. A playground and a 15-station educational trail also make this area attractive for families with children.

Upper station
At the mountaintop, you’ll find the lookout tower and the starting points of the “Sólyom” zipline and “Dongó” cable car. The zipline consists of two parallel cables, allowing for side-by-side gliding. Upon arriving at Szár-hegy—before returning to Magas-hegy—you can visit the Hungarian Calvary memorial site dedicated to Trianon, which consists of the National Flag, the Stations of the Cross, and the Saint Stephen Chapel.
