The museum in Jędrzejów was established through the initiative of the Przypkowski family. Feliks Przypkowski (1872-1951), a physician by training, was a great enthusiast of astronomy and gnomonics – the science of sundials; he collected clocks and constructed such instruments, sharing his passion with others. His son Tadeusz Przypkowski (1905-1977) donated the family collection to the state in 1962, leading to the creation of the Museum, which to this day attracts visitors interested in solar time measurement and more.
The main section of the Museum consists of sundials and astronomical instruments, forming one of the largest collections of its kind in the world. Visitors have the opportunity to see sundials of nearly all types produced between the 16th and 19th centuries, including Nuremberg, Augsburg, Parisian, and altitude dials. The collection also includes interior spaces styled as 18th-19th century palace apartments. The valuable collection of old prints and books gathered by the family adorns the museum library, while culinary enthusiasts can admire a collection of historic cookware and gastronomic memorabilia, thanks to Tadeusz Przypkowski’s culinary interests. An additional attraction are the numerous temporary exhibitions organized in several museum halls, showcasing works by artists connected with the Świętokrzyskie region.
