Despite its thousand-year history, Przemyśl had not previously had a permanent exhibition dedicated to its complex and rich past. On May 23, 2005, the Museum of the History of Przemyśl was opened as a branch of the National Museum of the Przemyśl Land, housed in two historic townhouses: Rynek 9 and Serbańska 7. These buildings, owned by the museum, were restored between 2001 and 2004 with funds from the Marshal’s Office of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship and the state budget.

The museum staff meticulously prepared permanent exhibitions in the Rynek 9 townhouse, featuring over 2,000 unique exhibits that showcase the city’s turbulent history. For this purpose, modern museum equipment was purchased, and hundreds of artifacts were carefully restored to their former glory. The building’s historic arcades were reconstructed, and 16th-century cellars were excavated. In the so-called “great hall,” an early Baroque stove was recreated. The first floor displays bourgeois interiors from the 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as the studio of Przemyśl’s most famous photographer, B. Henner. The second floor is dedicated to the works of the local artist Marian Stroński.

The museum is accessible to all, equipped with necessary facilities for people with disabilities. Its rich educational program (including museum lessons and workshops) ensures that children and teenagers—from kindergarten to high school—can learn through interactive experiences.

The museum opens its doors warmly to everyone, offering a chance to spend time in a meaningful and engaging way.
