Monument to Tadeusz Kościuszko – A Symbol of Independence and Freedom

The Kościuszko Mound in Kraków is a must-see landmark. Built during the era of the Free City of Kraków – then the only fragment of sovereign Poland – it has become a lasting symbol of the nation’s hope for independence.

Unforgettable view of Kraków and the Tatra Mountains

From the top of the mound, visitors can enjoy one of the most stunning panoramas of Kraków. Visible landmarks include Wawel Castle, St. Mary’s Basilica, the Cloth Hall, and – on a clear day – even the Tatra Mountains.

Fort 2 “Kościuszko” – A Unique Military Monument

Surrounding the mound is Fort 2 “Kościuszko”, one of the oldest surviving forts of the Kraków Fortress. Built between 1850 and 1856, it once held 60 cannons and a 700-man garrison. Today it houses the exhibition “The Fortress and the City of Kraków – 1846–1918.”

History, Technology, and Encounters with Polish Heroes

Inside the fort you’ll find both permanent and temporary exhibitions. Learn about Kościuszko’s life, explore the secrets of the Kraków Fortress, and meet Polish national heroes through a wax figure exhibition. The interactive display “Living Structures” reveals the invisible workings of engineering marvels.
